This has been a rough week. We’ve been dealing with the aftermath of the death of our employee all week — her funeral was yesterday, out of town. She had no life insurance, so we’re taking up collections to help her family pay for the funeral expenses and help provide some support for her two kids.

Yesterday, I reached out to pick up my glasses with my right hand. It must have been an odd angle because I heard/felt this sickening pop and felt a bolt of pain in my right shoulder. It hurt all day yesterday, although I kept the sling on most of the day. It’s a bit better today, but I wonder if I don’t need to go see the doctor to see if I popped some stitches or something loose.

Today my workload doubled. I already have a 50-60 hour work week, and the head of a department with which I work closely has left the company, so I’ve been given her department (and workload) to manage as well. The position probably won’t be filled until after the first of the year — at least. Not sure what I’m going to do, but right now I’m feeling sorry for myself. Fortunately, it’s a small team of people and they’re pretty self-managing, so that will help, but there’s a mountain of work to get done the next few months.

I guess the best news is that Hurricane Alex has swept some much-needed rain and cooler temperatures (if 89 degrees is cooler) as far north as Dallas. It’s supposed to rain on everyone’s holiday parades, picnics, and fireworks, but we needed the relief.

That’s my life. I guess I’d better get on with it.

Thanks for checking in.
