I’m a late bloomer. I didn’t get braces until I was 30 and didn’t have my tonsils out until after that. I’ve never broken anything, and so, consequently, I’ve never had to use crutches — until now when I’ll be using them after surgery tomorrow. I do have a pair (that I’ve never used), which I got out of the attic yesterday and practiced with. I’m about as coordinated as a giraffe on an ice skating rink. Hopefully I’ll be able to graduate to my cane quickly before I further damage myself or anyone else.
In about 24 hours, I should be getting out of surgery and be on my way to recovery. We have to be at the surgical center at 5:30 for a 7:30 surgery schedule. I’m up first, so they shouldn’t be running behind. Surgery should take an hour to an hour and a half. With a conservative two-hour recovery window on top of that, I figure I’ll be home by noon.
I think I’m as ready as I can be. I have to take care of a couple of small errands this evening, but other than that, it’s just try to get a good night’s sleep and get through it and get well.
I appreciate everyone’s well wishes and healing thoughts. I’ll post again as soon as I can to let you know how everything went.
Thanks for checking in.
best of luck! keep us posted. I am having foot reconstruction surgery in June and cannot drive for 8 weeks!!!! so not looking forward to that but I got a Knee Walker and that will be a life saver as I cannot use crutches as they kill me shoulders and hands. take care!
You’re going to do just fine on those sticks, Carla–it’s amazing how much necessity concentrates the mind and makes the awkward graceful. Here’s wishing you a quick, easy and trouble-free surgery tomorrow, and a quick recovery, too.
You’re in my thoughts. Sending warmth, patience and joyousness your way…
Well, think of it this way. You can always use the crutch to clobber someone that you are upset with
Wishing you a successful surgery, a speedy recovery and lots of lots of comedy movies to keep you smiling through it all.
Well you should be well on your way to recovery by now – hopping about happily on those crutches … well, perhaps not QUITE yet … I do hope it all went well!
