I have been meaning to post for days, but lately my life has seemed like a time-lapse video. You know that video that shows a seed being planted, then it germinates and sprouts and grows into a beautiful flower.
Then it’s eaten by a cow and winds up as a withered cow patty decomposing in the pasture. That’s me.
In the essense of brevity and to keep me from whining too much, here’s the Cliff Notes version of recent events:
- Shoulder surgery. The steroid shot did its work and since then I’ve made amazing progress. I can actually believe that I will make a full or nearly full recovery. Still have a lot of physical therapy in front of me and I’m still not supposed to lift more than one pound, but I am leaps and bounds beyond where I was the last time I posted. And the really good news is that I won’t have to convert to being left-handed for the rest of my life. (Apologies to my brother and the other lefties in the world, but it ain’t easy being left-handed in a right-handed world, and I’d like to avoid that if possible.)
- House repairs. Things have been on hold while I’ve been home recoverying. When I say “on hold” I mean nothing physically has been done. However, the last few weeks I’ve felt well enough that I’ve met with flooring people and kitchen people and installation people and mold people and insurance people out the kazoo. We basically are close to being ready to get all this stuff done. The mold remediation will be done the week after Thanksgiving, then the big replacement of the floors, kitchen, and paint will begin in January. (What a way to start the year.)
- Other news. In other news my career took an 180 degree turn as of yesterday. I’ll provide details in a later post (it’s a bit early to discuss at this point), but the change will definitely have a real impact on my life.
So that’s all the news that’s fit to print in my (Carla’s) corner of the world. Thanks for checking in, and Happy Thanksgiving next week. May you and yours enjoy all the blessings of the season.
When I read your first line about the time-lapse video, I am like OMG, she has the same life I do.
The craziness never really stops. I hope that you continue to recover well. Surgery definitely throws a person’s plans off. Post pictures when all those home repairs are complete. Hopefully, the career news is really good news. You have a Happy Thanksgiving as well.
You’ve been on my mind, Carla–I was wondering how you were doing. Glad you posted an update, and glad that you’re finally healing well. As for fixing the house damage, at least it won’t interfere with your holidays! And hey, new floors, carpet and paint (and the removal of unhealthy, musty mold) sounds to me like a terrific way to start the new year–with new surroundings!
I do hope your 180-degree work change is a positive one, even if unexpected. I’m looking forward to the story.
Do keep on taking good care, Carla. Sending patience, warmth and smiles your way.
You have been onmy mind as well!!! Here is hoping that your 180 is vastly more pleasant than the one I’ve just had…. I’m now on travel 3 weeks out of four… (She whined)
Will stay tuned for better news from you! Here is wishing you a right handed 2013 and only pleasant surprises….
Jan 3 I’m going to tell Rheumy time for biologics… So thanks for your support on that too!
Happy Thanksgiving Carla. I hope you can relax over the holiday and prepare your body for all that is coming its way. Enjoy those new floors!
Carla – I’m unsure of your past damage/treatment, but I have scheduled rotator cuff surgery in three weeks for a complte tear of the suprasinatus. I don’t want to go through with it but don’t have a clear sense of how my life will be without the surgery. Comments? Anyone?
Karen: First of all, good luck with your surgery. You can find more of my adventures with rotator cuff surgery (2 of them!) if you do a search on my site for “rotator cuff”. The first surgery was a breeze. The second, most recent surgery and recovery, has been more of a challenge. However, both were well worth it as it relieves pain, increases range of motion, and enhances your overall well-being. Please keep us posted on your progress.
Happy Thanksgiving and VERY sorry to hear there’s a job situation to hear about, if you see what I mean? Excellent news on the shoulder front though! I’m really glad that’s gone so well. I’m awaiting a scan + injection on my shoulder – D-day is 5 December.
