Ah, July. The year’s half over already, and I’m pleased to say that I’m making great progress on my new year’s resolution — to stay out of the hospital in 2011. Only six months to go. After having two shoulder surgeries last year, shoulder replacement the year before and hip replacement surgery the year before that, I (and my bank account!) need a break from hospitals.
Updates on a couple of other topics:
The branded Arava that I switched to from the generic does seem to be working. The only thing that I can think of was that I was just due for a flare and it was coincidence that it hit me the same time I made the medication switch. Thanks to the addition of Arava and the Paleo diet, I’m feeling pretty good. The major downside is the fatigue. It’s that bone-tired feeling that all the sleep in the world can’t cure.
On the diet side, I’m still enjoying the anti-inflammatory benefits of the Paleo diet. (I did slip last week and had a bagel at the deli for breakfast, but didn’t have any noticeable issues.) However, I’ve stopped losing weight. I lost 4.5 pounds the first week and pretty much stopped there. I’ll go down another pound, then back up. I’m on Paleo because of the health benefits, but I have to admit that I was hopeful that I’d lose some more weight on it, too. You’d think that eliminating all grains, dairy (including the wonderful cheese I love), and legumes would have more of an effect. I think that, over time, it will as my body adjusts to the new eating style. My husband who has been on the diet with me has lost 7 pounds, and I’m really proud of him.
So, happy July. Have a great 4th of July celebration.
Thanks for checking in.
Congratulations on feeling good Carla and especially for staying out of the hospital!!! Also, congrats to your husband for his weight loss. It is nice having someone else follow this diet with you, isn’t it? Enjoy your 4th!
So glad you’re feeling better! Your posts about the paleo diet still have me thinking. I almost bought a book about it at Half-Price Books, but didn’t because I have three other books about anti-inflammation diets. I’m still new to RA diagnosis and am learning a lot. Thanks for continuing to post.
Glad that you are making some progress both with staying hospital free and with the paleo diet. Happy fourth to you and yours also!
