I can think of many “good” words that start with the letter “C”. Besides my name, “chocolate” immediately comes to mind.
I went for a follow-up visit with my retina doctor last week and came back with a “C” word that I didn’t like. It seems that while my retinas are doing fine, I am starting to develop cataracts.
What I’m developing are cortical cataracts. These are wedge-shaped formations that start on the outside edge of the lens and move toward the center as they grow. I have few symptoms at this point, with the exception that I’m nearly blind at night. It makes driving after hours (and after daylight savings time) challenging.
That being said, my doctor wants me to come back for a follow-up in six months and has already mentioned surgery.
Sigh.
I hope whatever comes into your field of view today brings you a smile. Thanks for checking in.
Carla: I found out the same thing last April after noticing that colors were not as vibrant…he stepped back my lens RX which helped some but nighttime driving is awful! I go back in April and suspect that surgery will be likely…keep me posted and good luck! Nan
Is this due to a medication, age or family genes? Just curious. Seems we just keep getting handed more and more. Good luck and do keep us up to date with this new development.
Wow, it’s so common! It might seem a bit silly but to try and reduce the possibility of my son developing cataracts, I have purchased a pair of sunglasses for him… normal you may think, but he is only 6mths old! Living in Australia you definitely have to think of this as I didn’t wear sunglasses until I was in my 20’s.
Cataracts are common in my family, so I definitely have to take care of my eyesight.
I wish you well and hope that if you do have surgery, that it is a success!
Hi Carla,
I know a few people who have had cataract surgery, and all wished they had done it much sooner, the outcome was so wonderful for them. While none of them had RA as a consideration, one did have Diabetes, coupled with high blood pressure, still with a very successful outcome. Considerable improvement for night driving was a main source of joy for each of them. I wish you well in this process.
Oh no Carla! I like the chocolate as the “C” word much better. How are you feeling about this?
